Long-time lurker, first time poster. I lost my old account info, so I made a new one. Also, I hate to sound pushy, but I need as many responses as I can get by Monday. For those of you who respond: you are freakin' awesome!!
Anyways...
I am in the process of writing a final paper for my class on Class, Race, and Gender. The paper is on how Class, Race, and Gender relate to MMO’s, both in game and in the “real world.” Since very little (if any) scholarly research has been done on the subject, I decided that I would do some surveys. You may fill out as little or as much as you’d like, anything helps and all of the questions are optional. You may either respond by posting on this thread, or you may email me at [email protected]. Some of the questions are a little personal so I would expect many people to choose the latter route. I will restate my email at the end of the survey for your convenience.

Yes, I realize this. That is why I specified that all questions are optional. I mostly put the name spot there for courtesy. I don't care if I get a hundred responses from people saying their name is LEEROY JENKINS LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!11. I just want to see some data as related to the topic. I appreciate your concern, though : )

Edit: Upon re-reading, I noticed you also said email, and I see how that could be a security hazard. Anyone who is concerned about that can reply to this topic with their answers. This paper is not being published, and I am using the data to make charts and graphs, the only person ever seeing the filled out surveys will be myself or the other users of this forum.
I know some of the info is a bit sensitive, and I wish I could ask different questions. People are welcome to be as vague as they wish.

Out of curiosity, since you say there's a lack of material - I happen to be doing a term paper on the portrayal of women within video games. I've been digging through my university library, and I did come across things about gender and video games. Are you looking specifically for GW data, or just MMO data in general?

Do you tend to stay with the group or rush in on your own? I stay with the group and scream at people not to rush in on their own.

Gender: Female - reason I choose this was because it seemd more appropriate for a female character to wear a skirt and the male faces were a bit ugly.

What archetype do you enjoy most? (DPS, healer, tank, hybrid, etc): Um... Damage dealing, like nuking (with my other main) or playing around with my Dervish (she's not a very good tank), though healing's kind of fun to.

Well, it is technically on MMOs in general but I chose Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, and World of bleh as representatives for several reasons. Mainly I chose them because I have a lot of experience playing each of them. Guild wars is probably the most popular subscription-free game, and the Warhammer and that-other-game's player bases are pretty different as far as how hardcore they are.
Anyways, I would love to see what you've found! Also, thanks for the response! : )

People should be very careful with sending a stranger an email with all that info.

He will not just have your email-adrdess (which could be the same as your GW-account), he will also have a lot of information (birth year, names etc) to guess your password.

@OP: It's nothing against you and I wish you good luck with your final paper, I know how much work it is, since I handed my final work in about 1 month ago.

Sorry if this happens to be a double-post. I respect the privacy of others, and I would really prefer people be as vague as possible with their responses. It would feel too awkward for me to have actual identifiable info. Just a little bit of data can go a long way for me since I am combining it with my experience!!

My post was more a general thought about giving your "account info" to others.
Your thread seems honest and I'm sure it is and I'm sure you will only use the data for your final paper.

But these days way too many accounts get lost due to people being too trustful.

Gear: Switch between Elite Luxon, Normal Luxon and Monument, Storm Bow/Tengu Flatbow
Playstyle: I'm the stereotypical ranger. I sit back dazing/interrupting/spiking, and am usually the one who rezzes after a party wipe. I bring Rebirth. =D

Do you tend to stay with the group or rush in on your own? Depends. If it's a PUG I lead ahead, otherwise I follow the tank.

Why? Arrogant and thick.

Why? Sins dominate PvE. Dervs are just annoying in PvP.
